Boldness

To be bold means to be willing to undertake things that involve risk or danger. Whilst researching this topic, I stumbled across my favorite creature - the African honey badger. The amazing thing about this little animal, is its sheer tenacity and boldness. The honey badger will eat almost anything under the sun to survive. Honey badgers have been known to tear apart bee hives. Often, they get stung senseless and literally pass out from the poisonous stings. However, with time the honey badger slowly wakes  and begins to indulge in the sweet prize it fought so hard to attain.

A further remarkable thing about the honey badger is its bravery. Honey badgers fear nothing. They will stand firm in the face an adolescent lion (I say adolescent lion because older lions have learnt to avoid this little cage fighter). Should the lion choose to attack the badger, the skin on the badgers neck is so thick and flexible that  whilst caught in the jaws of Africa's most powerful predator, it is able to turn in its own body and bite the lion on the nose. No matter how severe the lion mauls the badger, the badger will always rise to its feet and strut away with swagger. It does not fear the venom of a cobra, the talons of an eagle, the jaws of a crocodile or the speed of a cheetah. The badger is both bold and brave. He has no sense of a "comfort zone" and will do whatever it takes to attain the prize.

I believe that we should be more like the honey badger in our lives. We should take that step outside our "comfort zones" and challenge all that which tries to hold us in bondage. Sometimes taking that step requires boldness. The courage to identify the things that in the long run can lead us towards destruction. We should face our demons head on and much like the honey badger, fight them until they release us and we can taste the sweet nectar of life once more.

If there is something in your life that is holding you in bondage, be it alcohol or drugs, abuse, a broken down relationship or an illness of any kind; take that first step in boldness and ask God how you can tackle that demon. Stop looking to the world for resolution but simply ask God for the courage and boldness to overcome that which plagues your life. In the same way God gave honey badgers the tenacity to fend off lions, he shall give you the tenacity to break your demons like glass under foot.

Corinthians 10:13 - "No temptation has taken you except what is common to men. But God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out in order for you to be able to endure it."

Isaiah 50:7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
